Fees & rebates

Specialist therapy. Transparent pricing.

Our clinicians hold advanced clinical training — EFT, DBT, Schema Therapy, ACT, somatic therapy, clinical sex therapy, and more — and bring it to work that a generalist practice typically can't offer.

We publish the full fee schedule here so you can plan ahead. Individual sessions are $235 to $285 depending on your therapist's registration, and Medicare rebates apply with three of our clinicians. There is no income questionnaire and no means test.

Why does the fee vary by therapist?

The individual session fee is set by your therapist's registration level, not by how experienced they are or how good the work is. Registration is also what determines whether Medicare will pay a rebate.

Can I get a Medicare rebate?

Yes — with a GP referral and a Mental Health Care Plan, Medicare pays a rebate on sessions with our psychologist, clinical psychologist, or mental health social worker. We lodge the Medicare claim for you once your invoice is paid, so there is nothing extra for you to submit. Malan van der Walt and JC Christoff are both currently taking new clients.

Medicare rebates don't apply to relationship therapy. That's a federal policy, not a Unison one — so relationship sessions are self-funded regardless of whether you hold a referral.

Concession rates

Concession places are an ongoing part of how the practice works, for Health Care Card holders and anyone in financial hardship. Both categories are currently full and running a waitlist — the relationship concession especially, where the wait is realistically long. Mention concession when you enquire and we'll add you to the list.

Relationship therapy

Other funding pathways

DVA / Open Arms

Fully funded for eligible veterans, ADF personnel, and their families.

WorkSafe Victoria

Approved provider.

NDIS

Plan-managed and self-managed participants welcome.

Private health insurance

Claim directly with your fund after each session. Cover varies by your policy and your clinician’s registration, so check with your fund before booking.

A gap fee may apply where a funding body doesn't cover the full session fee.

If your employer runs an EAP, sessions may cost you nothing out of pocket — including relationship therapy, which most EAPs don't cover. Mention your employer's scheme when you enquire.

Already a Unison client?

These are the rates for new bookings. If you're already seeing one of our therapists, your fee isn't changing overnight — anyone moving up to a new rate does it in steps over several months, and Marissa is contacting every client individually with their own dates. You don't need to do anything, and you're welcome to email her with questions.

Cancellations

More than 2 days before your appointment: no charge. Between 48 and 24 hours: half the session fee. Less than 24 hours or no-show: full session fee. Let us know by email, SMS, or phone.

Payment

Payments are due within 7 days of invoicing and before your next scheduled appointment. If you are struggling with payments, talk to our admin team — we are happy to help.

Longer sessions

Standard individual sessions are 50 minutes. Relationship sessions are 65 minutes (two people) or 75 minutes (three or more). Sessions running longer than the standard time are charged pro-rata at the same per-minute rate.
