Accessibility statement — Unison

Unison is committed to an inclusive, welcoming online experience for everyone, including people with disability and people who use assistive technologies. We design and maintain our website to meet the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 Level AA.

Why this statement matters

  • Legal: Some jurisdictions require an Accessibility Statement. In Australia, accessibility aligns with obligations under the Disability Discrimination Act 1992 (Cth).

  • Transparency: This page explains our approach, what works well, and what we’re still improving.

  • Feedback: It invites you to tell us what isn’t working so we can fix it.

Scope

This statement applies to unisonmentalhealth.com and Unison-operated pages and embeds (including our therapist-matching/chat experiences).

Our commitment

We strive to make content perceivable, operable, understandable and robust for the widest possible audience. Accessibility is considered in our design system, content style, and development practices.

Standards

Our target conformance level is WCAG 2.2 AA. We use semantic HTML, ARIA (only where needed), and progressive enhancement to support a wide range of browsers, devices, and assistive technologies.

Features we’ve implemented

  • Keyboard access: Logical tab order, visible focus, and a “skip to content” link.

  • Contrast & colour: Minimum contrast ratios and non-colour cues for meaning.

  • Text & layout: Resizable text (up to 200%) without loss of content or function; responsive layouts.

  • Images & media: Alt text for informative images; no images of text; captions/transcripts for media; avoidance of flashing content.

  • Forms: Clear labels, helpful error messages, and error prevention on important actions.

  • Screen reader support: Landmarks, headings, lists, and relationships conveyed programmatically.

Current status

We consider the site partially conformant with WCAG 2.2 AA. Known issues we’re actively addressing include:

  • Third-party embeds (e.g., chat widgets, maps, video players) that may not fully support keyboard or screen readers.

  • Legacy documents (e.g., older PDFs) that may not be fully tagged or navigable.

  • Occasional heading or link-text inconsistencies on older pages.

If you encounter a problem not listed here, please let us know.

Alternative ways to access content or services

If any digital feature is not accessible to you, we can provide alternative formats (e.g., large print, plain-text versions, transcripts) or alternative channels (email or phone support to complete a task).

Feedback and contact

We welcome feedback about accessibility and usability.

Please include the page URL, what you were trying to do, and any assistive tech you’re using. We aim to respond within 2 business days.

Ongoing audits and improvements

  • Automated checks (e.g., Lighthouse/axe) on builds and releases.

  • Manual testing (keyboard-only and screen-reader spot checks with VoiceOver/NVDA).

  • Content governance: Editor guidance for headings, link text, alt text and plain-language style.

  • Review cadence: Quarterly reviews of key templates and an annual site-wide audit, with remediation tracked in our backlog.

Formal complaints (Australia)

If you’re not satisfied with our response, you can contact the Australian Human Rights Commission regarding accessibility under the Disability Discrimination Act 1992 (Cth).
